Local Emergency Planning Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the LEPC are those set out in the SARA Title III/EPCRA and any other purposes assigned by the county. Section 303 of the EPCRA states the LEPC is required to develop a chemical emergency response and preparedness plan for the county. The LEPC is responsible for keeping the public informed and educated on potential hazards, including natural disasters.

In keeping with EPCRA regulations, the whole county will be encouraged to participate in all activities conducted by the committee. The LEPC shall follow the Community Right-to-Know laws to increase the protection for the community from exposure of chemical produced, used, stored, and/or transported within the area.
